Toyota recalls almost 700,000 Tacomas
Toyota has issued a recall on 690,000 Tacoma 4X4s and Tacoma pickup trucks due to rear suspension system defects. The leaf springs in the rear suspension can fracture and possibly come in contact with the fuel tank, increasing the risk of a leak and fire in the presence of an ignition source. Leaf springs are pieces of metal that are placed together in units of three or four. One of the leaf springs may fracture due to pressure or corrosion and cause the risk of injury. The vehicles recalled are 2005 through 2011 model years.
