9th Circuit Hints That Free Speech Protects Wearing of Unearned Medals

In a new challenge to the Stolen Valor Act, an Air Force veteran is
asking the 9th Circuit to junk a provision that makes it a crime to wear
a medal without "authorization." The panel seemed reluctant to drop the
provision, but one judge appeared troubled by the statute’s impact on
free speech.
